It is a joint initiative of the World Methodist Council Youth Committee and the Africa Youth Network of the General Board of Global Ministries, UMC. In January a small group of young church leaders held a planning team meeting to strategize for a larger youth consultation that will take place in July. The consultation will include about 30 young people from throughout East Africa and will focus on the theme, “Troubled But Not Destroyed” (2 Corinthians. 4:8-10).

WAYN

The West Africa Youth Network held their first Consultation in September 2001 after more than a year of strategic planning. Thirty-one young people from French and English-speaking communities in nine West African nations came together to face the challenges of their times. Ecumenism, globalization and economic justice, democracy and good governance in Africa, and HIV/AIDS are some of the issues that they have identified as priorities. In addition they have created a Young Women’s Forum/Network specifically to address women’s empowerment.
