Mission Statement [ top
]
The purpose of the Youth Committee is to empower young people
to change the world by changing the church through witnessing,
worshipping, connecting, and strengthening belief in God the
Creator, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
Vision [ top
]
The Youth Committee, as part of the World Methodist Council,
shares the vision of 1 Timothy 4:12 and Ephesians 4:12-13
by not letting others look down on us because we are young.
Instead we set an example for others so that we build up
the body of Christ and come to the unity of faith.
Biblical Focus [ top
]
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you
are young, but set an example for the believers in speech,
in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. To equip the
saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body
of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith
and of the knowledge of the son of God, to maturity, to
the measure of the full stature of Christ.” (Taken
from 1 Timothy 4:12 and Ephesians 4:12-13)
Our Aims [ top
]
The World Methodist Council Youth Committee works to promote
the Church’s care for young people around the world.
In an effort to do this, the Youth Committee encourages
and supports regional networking and gathering, as well
as, positive working relationships and communication throughout
the world. Every five years, prior to the World Methodist
Conference, the Youth Committee organizes an International
Methodist Young Leaders Seminar to bring young leaders together
from around the world so that they may be empowered to continue
Christ’s work in their regions. As the Youth Committee
continues to uplift the work of the World Methodist Council,
it makes an effort to work in cooperation with the other
standing committees and the World Federation of Methodist
and Uniting Church Women.
Our Logo [ top
]
The logo of the Youth Committee shows the center cross surrounding
the globe signifying the Christian ethos of the Youth Committee.
The larger outside cross reminds us of our Wesleyan heritage.
This cross was used as a symbol for early Methodist young
people. The four parts of the cross represent proclamation,
bible study, recreation and social action - areas still
important in youth ministry today.
